My name is Megan Siegfried, and I consider myself to be an all around creative. I graduated from Mercyhurst University with a BA degree in English and a concentration in Professional Writing: Text, Image, and Design.
Some of my skills include writing professional copy, editing, graphic design, and social media content creation. If you would like to hear a bit more about me, click here to view my resume.
First and foremost, I am a writer. If you click the image on the right, you'll find some examples of my work.
The first is a poem that won first place in the P. Barry McAndrew Awards for Excellence in Creative Writing. It was featured in Lumen, the Mercyhurst University Creative Arts Journal. Three other creative pieces of mine were accepted into the publication as well. The second is a paper that won the only P. Barry McAndrew Award for Excellence in Literary Criticism.
The third piece is a list of narratives written about Trailblazers in Erie, PA. These narratives were included on 8 separate pieces of public art placed on Parade Street in Erie. I worked with artists Bridgette Davitt and Scott Gladd on this project. Read more about the Discovery Trail public art installation here.
My love for communication is what ignited my passion for graphic design. Like writing, the generation of visual content is a creative way to grab attention and provide information.
If you click the image on the left, you'll find some of my design work. The first series is a snapshot of the sticker designs I sell on Redbubble. If you're interested in a closer look, visit my shop!
The second is a cocktail recipe booklet that I made for some practice in print design. The final featured piece is a brochure that I was asked to make for the Mercyhurst University Department of English. The Senior Thesis Presentation is a formal event that allows senior English majors to present their capstone to their department. I was asked to create a trifold that showcased the 2021 project abstracts.
I bought my first professional camera at the start of 2021. During the pandemic, I took up bird watching, and I subsequently decided that these beautiful little creatures would make for some lovely subjects.
Since I started to play with photography, I have had my work accepted into two juried shows. If you click on the image to the right, you can view these photographs and a few more. The first is entitled "Resting Chickadee," and this piece was accepted into the Mercyhurst University Spring Term Juried Photography Show. Jessica Stadtmueller, artist and ceramics professor, acted as juror for this show that was sponsored by the Photography Club on campus. The second photograph, "Winter Song," was accepted into the 2021 Patricia S. Yahn ’50 Juried Student Art Show. The juror was Mr. Kris Risto, an Erie-based painter and muralist.
